Targa Tasmania

Now that I have decided to go ahead with a full build I needed a goal. I have for many years wanted to enter a local Australian event called Targa Tasmania after spending some time over there and experiencing the roads previously. As a result I thought that going in to this build I should focus my build decisions on meeting the Targa Australia regulations. The other driver was that I want the car to remain a street car for the foreseeable future, it may in time become a dedicated track car but for the moment I still want to drive it on the road. Now between these two criteria I would be able to lay the foundation around the decisions I would make during the build planning process. So I downloaded the 2017 Targa Australia Regulations: Targa Australia 2017 Regulations I also noticed on the Targa Australia site that there was a few other E46 M3's that had been competing in recent event. Then my job situation changed and I had an opportunity, with both the time and resources now at my fingertips to make a full E46 M3 project viable I decided to investigate further. I toyed with the idea of getting an S54 crate motor from BMW, obviously an absurd notion, but this thought and Google led me to Lang Racing Development's website. I started pricing up a Lang Racing Development rebuild and although pricey I could build a significantly more bulletproof engine along with additional performance all for the price of getting a stock rebuild from BMW directly and for not too much more than quoted by BM Autohaus originally. This grew more and more appealing the more I looked into it so I started emailing Andrew directly about some of the options. I decided that now was the time to make this build a reality so I

Engine Search

Iv'e been searching for a decent priced second hand engine or E46 M3 wreck for some time now to no avail. There have been a few pop up but their history has been questionable and the price too high considering I would need to purchase them sight unseen as they are not local. I have started to expand my search international and re-think some other potential options to get the car back on the road.
